The Student Tech Team (STT) program implemented in the schools that are part of the C·R·E·A·T·E for Mississippi project endeavors to train students to provide just-in-time support for technology use for teachers, administrators, and students in the classroom. The Student Tech Teams, under the direction of the Technology Facilitator, are middle school students who are interested in technology and are ready to assist technology integration in their schools, serving as a ready pool of students available to both solve problems and contribute to teachers' ability to integrate technology into their lesson plans.
The C·R·E·A·T·E for Mississippi Core Schools have taken different approaches in setting up their Student Tech Teams. Numerous factors influenced the selection process for their teams including the physical size and layout of the school, the size of the student population, the arrangement of class schedules, and the ages of the students.
C·R·E·A·T·E for Mississippi has resources available for schools that are considering creating a technology-related student team. Each school must determine a set of requirements for the selection of their Student Tech Teams, requirements that may include teacher recommendations, students' completion of a questionnaire, or students' taking a test covering computers and technology. In addition, each school must identify the anticipated duties for their Student Tech Teams. Depending on the knowledge level of the team members selected for the team, the STT completes various tasks as assigned by the Technology Facilitator at their schools. Tasks may include ghosting computers, troubleshooting hardware problems, assisting teachers in learning to use software, assisting teachers with research on specific topics, creating presentations for teachers, or field-testing lessons for teachers.
