The Student Tech Team (STT) program implemented by the C·R·E·A·T·E for Mississippi project endeavors to train students to provide just-in-time support for technology use to teachers and students in the classroom. The Student Tech Teams, under the direction of the Technology Facilitator, are middle school students who are interested in technology and are ready to assist teachers and their fellow students. The Tech Teams provide a ready pool of students available to both solve problems and contribute to teachers' ability to integrate technology into their lesson plans.
The C·R·E·A·T·E for Mississippi Core Schools have each taken different approaches in setting up their Student Tech Teams. Numerous factors influenced the selection process for their teams including the size of the school, the number of students, the physical layout of the school, class schedules, and the ages of the students. Resources are available to schools that are considering creating a technology-related student team. Each school determines a set of requirements for the selection of their Student Tech Teams including teacher recommendations, completion of a questionnaire, or taking a test on computers and technology. Each school must identify the anticipated duties for their Student Tech Teams. Depending on the knowledge level of the team, STT members complete various tasks as assigned by the Technology Facilitator at their schools. Tasks may include ghosting computers, troubleshooting hardware problems, assisting teachers with software, assisting with research on a specific topic, creating presentations for teachers, field-testing lessons for Lead Teachers, etc.
