Wilkinson County School District is located in Southwest Mississippi. Woodville is one of the oldest towns in the state: Woodville was first settled near the turn of the nineteenth century and was incorporated as a town in 1811. A short time later, it was chosen as the county seat of Wilkinson County. The original Natchez Trace had its point of origin at Fort Adams on the Mississippi River near Woodville when the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Army, General James Wilkinson, for whom the county was named completed a treaty with the Choctaw Indians to open a thoroughfare from Fort Adams northeast in order that supplies in soldiers could safely travel to the fort located there. Woodville and Wilkinson County have contributed much to the history of the south and of the nation, having produced native sons of state and nationwide renown to numerous to mention. Woodville is distinguished in the early history of Mississippi not only for its political and financial leadership, but also as a leader in the states early religious and educational affairs.

The history of education in Wilkinson County was of vital interest of the early settlers of Woodville and Wilkinson County in the education of their youth. It is reflected in the wealth of schools, which flourished in the early days of the area. This can also be said of the Wilkinson County School District today, which boasts two elementary schools and a high school.

The Wilkinson County School District maintains high performance in the areas of student achievement and school accountability. The school district also provides a nurturing environment that allows students to develop holistically, intellectually, morally, physically, socially, emotionally and aesthetically. The district is committed to minimizing failure and maximizing their potential for success. The school district has many educational advances. There are three campuses that make-up the Wilkinson County School District. The schools are located in different areas in the county but practice the same educational values. The Martin Luther King Career and Technology Complex will strive to provide students with entry-level work skills and provide a smooth transition from school to the rapidly-changing world of work. Technical programs at the MLK Career Complex are Allied Health, Business and Computer Technology, Automotive Body Repair, Automotive Mechanics and Building Trades.

The school district also has a technology program, Tech Prep (Technical Preparation) housed at the high school for students in grades 7-9 that provides a high-quality education for the students so they may be able to function effectively as responsible and self-directed individuals in a technologically-oriented and informational society.

The Wilkinson County School District's policy assures that no one shall, on the grounds of race, color, age religion, national origin, sex, or handicap, be excluded from participation in, and be denied benefits of an education.

Tech Team

Selection Process

The criteria used for choosing students for membership on the STT were their background classroom knowledge, personality and computer skills. The students were selected by recommendations from Administrators, Counselors and Lead Teachers. The students must complete several activities using the laptop computer, desktop computer, digital camera, internet and an interview to determine their personality and professional skills.

Responsibilities

The STT will be required to assist the TF with all computer related skills, troubleshooting problems, equipment delivery and classroom teacher assistance. The team members will travel in groups of fours when delivering the specific equipment except the digital camera. The team members are also responsible for collecting the teacher's request forms, logging general maintenance to computers inside and outside the C·R·E·A·T·E classroom.

The procedures we will use in Wilkinson County are each tech member must maintain a daily log that will be turned into the TF at the end of the week (weekly log), each group will also have a weekly log and all members will be required to complete all logs that involve tech support and equipment request. Each student will also maintain a copy of each teacher they deliver equipment to and assist during instruction and troubleshooting. Each tech member will rate their teammates at the end of each week.
